Edventure

The cute children's museum, Edventure,  is a great choice for a fun activity with the kids.
The "Blooming Butterfly" exhibit is nearing the end, so go check out the butterflies one last time before they close the doors on their enclosure. Sunday October 4, 2014 is the last day to see them!
If you haven't seen their dinosaur exhibit, go check it out now! The kids can play with big (fake) dino eggs, take their picture next to a dinosaur and dig for fossils. My child loved the fossil rubbing station where you can rub a fossil with a crayon and take your rubbing home!

And as always, the construction site and fire truck is always a favorite for my son. He loves to pretend to be a firefighter and drive the big truck! The grocery store is always a hit, hard for me to keep up and make sure he cleans up after himself (he is 2), but I love how excited he gets to see a shopping cart (buggy) HIS size and I am actually allowing him to take anything he wants off the shelves and put it in his cart! How fun!

Don't forget to keep checking the website for their calendar of events. They often have fun family nights and events that aren't always advertised well. http://www.edventure.org/calendar/
This saturday, September 20, 2014 they are having a "Farmville" event 10am-3pm to teach kids about farming and the food we eat from farms! Sounds fun!

Every second Tuesday from 5-8pm the admission price is only $1. If you have never been to this museum, try it out then!

Riverbanks zoo

Summer has come to an end and we are all awaiting the cooler fall temperatures to arrive. School is back in session and places like the zoo are less crowded during the day.  I went the other day on a cloudy day and it was wonderful.

what the new entry will look like

Sadly the zoo is still under construction and while this can be annoying to walk around and figure out where your favorite exhibits are hiding, the thoughts of what is yet to come fills the air with a sense of excitement! The garden will have a re-vamped children's garden that will have a water feature that the kids can actually play in! Brilliant! The zoo (the city) is SO hot during the summer months, we needed this!
And the animals that are coming are going to be a crowd pleaser for sure! The Sea Lions are coming!!! I think everyone is excited about those animals! We will be able to view them under water and above water and rumor has it that they may even put on a little show for us! And our Grizzly Bears will return with their friends the river otters. Along with a bigger and better gift shop and a better first aid station and ticket booth!
So, until the day arrives when our "new and improved" zoo is open (projected to be Summer 2015), we will side step around all the construction and enjoy what we have!

Don't forget "Boo at the Zoo" October 17-30th. 6-9pm. Dress up the kids and bring their candy buckets for a fun zoo styled trick or treat! Unfortunately this event is NOT free to members. It is $7 for members and $9 for the public (online only- $12 at gate), but its a fun family night. Enjoy the exercise and a piece of candy or two from your child's bucket.
